The star count on a listing appears to be the GitHub repository's stars, so a plugin that lives inside a big project's repo shows that project's number.

- Wait for Hermes Desktop to open an install dialog.

My habit is to run info before install every single time.
When I ran it on Hermes Newswire, it showed no tools, no hooks and no environment variables, which is exactly why that plugin is my number one.

Operator Setup Notes For Each Plugin
Here is what I'd watch for on each of the best Hermes Agent plugins when you set them up.
Hermes Newswire scans as "caution" when you install it, and the README explains that the scan is reacting to test files and install commands rather than runtime behaviour.
In the terminal you confirm with a yes, and the README says the Desktop Plugins page refuses a caution result outright, so use the terminal for that one.
After installing, open the Newswire page, add a source by pasting a site address and let it find the feed.
Hermes Tailscale needs Tailscale installed and logged in on the machine that runs Hermes.
The README says actions that change something ask first, and that Funnel stays off, which is the kind of default I like to see.
Hermes Speech needs Hermes Agent 0.20.0 or later, and you can ask your agent to set up speech and it will walk you through AllModels sign-up.
Claude Subscription DirectSDK needs Hermes Agent 0.21.4 or newer and the Claude Code CLI installed and logged in.

Hermes Office only makes sense once you have Bot Mode agents, because the office is where those bots sit.
Web Search Plus can be configured from the plugin settings form in Hermes Desktop, with one API key field per provider.
WhatsApp Agent Platform needs Hermes Agent 0.21.4 or newer and a WhatsApp account that has Meta's Agents feature, which is rolling out gradually.
Minecraft Gateway needs the Hermes gateway running, because it's a platform plugin like Discord or Telegram.
Pick One Voice Plugin, Not Four
I said this in the video and I'll say it again here.
There are 15 plugins in the Voice category, and several of them do the same job.

Ollama Cloud web search adds search and page extraction through Ollama's own API, and it reuses your Ollama API key.

The Safety Check Before You Install Any Hermes Plugin
This is the one thing I told everyone to check in the video.
Out of the 532 plugin pages I counted in the catalog on 10 October 2026, only 10 were official plugins from Nous Research.
The rest are community plugins, which means an independent developer wrote the code.
So read the GitHub repository and the README before you install anything.
- Check what the plugin says it does, and make sure that's the job you want.
- Check which API keys or environment variables it asks for.
- Check the "Disclosure" line that many listings include, because it tells you what the plugin reads or runs.
- Check where your data goes, especially for voice and messaging plugins.
- Check the last update date, because an abandoned plugin can break after a Hermes update.
Hermes also has a safety net built in.
The installer runs a security scan, a "dangerous" verdict can never be installed, and a "caution" verdict asks you to confirm in the terminal.
There's even a community plugin called Hermes Plugin Guard that reviews other plugins without running their code.
Don't Install Every Hermes Plugin You See
When you see hundreds of free plugins, the temptation is to install forty of them on day one.
I'd resist that.
Every plugin is something else for Hermes to load, and every plugin that adds tools gives your model more to choose from.
Some plugins add a lot of tools, such as Unbrowse with 24 and Bot Forge with 14.
Pick the two or three that solve a problem you have this week, and add more only when a real job needs them.
