Grok Bot Android setup takes seven moves: check your Android version, install from Google Play, sign in, link your Grok access if you need to, set notifications, allow phone apps and tune approvals.
The Android app needs Android 9 or later, per the Grok Bot mobile docs.
It is a remote control, not a second Bot: it connects to the same Bots, conversations, routines, connectors and shared cloud computer as the desktop app.
Close the app and the work keeps running in the cloud.
Here's the exact order I'd set it up in, with every menu named the way xAI names it.
If you want my team to work out which of your SEO jobs an agent should run first, book a free SEO strategy session.
Step 1: Check your phone runs Android 9 or later
Open your phone's settings, find the software or "About phone" page and read the Android version.
Anything from Android 9 up is supported, according to the deployment table.
On top of that you need a data connection and a plan that includes Grok Bot.
On The X Subscription, that means Premium, Super or Ultra, on an individual plan or a team seat.
The Plus plan doesn't include Grok Bot, says the X Subscription Grok Bot page.
On a legacy Cursor plan, every paid individual plan and Cursor Teams include it.
Step 2: Install from the official Google Play listing
Use the listing xAI links from its own docs: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.x.grok.bot.
The package name ai.x.grok.bot is the one to match, so you don't grab a lookalike.
Updates come from Google Play too.
When the app tells you a newer version is needed, tap Update Grok Bot and it opens the store, per the troubleshooting guide.
Rolling it out to a team's Android phones
Managing company handsets? Approve Grok Bot inside managed Google Play using Intune or whichever Android MDM tool you run.
Members then sign in with their Cursor account through your normal SSO flow.
There is no separate Grok Bot login to provision.
Step 3: Sign in with the account you already use on desktop
Open the app and choose Log In or Sign Up.
Your browser opens for Cursor authentication.
Use the same Cursor account you use on desktop or the web, or you'll land in an empty account with no Bots.
Grok Bot uses the shared xAI sign-in path, and the page may show Grok or xAI branding.
The sign-in article is clear that signing in only authenticates you.
It doesn't link accounts, combine them or switch your plan.
First-timers see a short tour, choose a starter Bot, then sit tight while the cloud computer gets built.
If you've used Grok Bot before, your synced Bots appear right away.
If the sign-in loops
Sign in on desktop first, then try the phone again.
That's the fix the troubleshooting guide gives for a phone stuck in a loop.
Reinstalling the app usually doesn't help.
Step 4: Link Grok Account if your access comes from SuperGrok or X Premium+
This step only applies if Grok Bot access comes from a SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription.
When the access screen asks, choose Link Grok Account and finish signing in to Grok in the browser.
Back in the app, tap Finished Linking? Refresh My Status.
A link you already made on desktop or the web carries over to the phone on the same Cursor account.
Be careful here: the FAQ says a link is permanent and you can't move it yourself.
On The X Subscription there's nothing to link, because Grok Bot draws from your plan's shared weekly pool.

Step 5: Don't buy a second subscription through Google Play
The app has a paywall screen, and it's easy to tap through it by reflex.
Don't.
If your Cursor account already includes Grok Bot, xAI says you should not buy a second subscription through Apple or Google Play.
That covers Premium, Super and Ultra seats, legacy Cursor Ultra, Pro+ and Pro, Cursor Teams seats, and SuperGrok or X Premium+ links.
A Cursor plan and a SuperGrok link don't add together either; Grok Bot uses whichever grants more weekly usage.
Your phone and desktop share the same usage on the account.
When subscribing in the app does make sense
Only when your account has no Grok Bot access at all.
Choose a plan on the paywall, then finish the in-app purchase through Google Play.
The app sells monthly individual plans only.
Yearly billing, Teams and Enterprise go through cursor.com, and on-demand usage gets switched on from the web.
There is no in-app trial on Android.
Step 6: Set notifications so approvals reach you
The app asks for notification permission during first run.
Say yes if you want to hear when a Bot has a result, a question or an approval request.
Two switches must both allow it: Android's permission for the app and the Bot's own notification setting.
For a single Bot, open its profile from the chat header and flip the Notifications switch.
To mute all Bots at once, switch Notifications off in the app's main Settings screen.
If the app reports Notifications are off, choose Open Settings and re-allow Grok Bot in Android's settings.
The desktop handoff rule that surprises people
When the Mac or Windows desktop app is in active use, your own Bots alert you there rather than on Android.
Finished replies skip the phone in that case.
When a Bot needs your input, the phone gets pinged about 3 minutes later unless you open that Bot, switch off its notifications or hide it first.
That behaviour shipped in v0.71.2, per the Grok Bot changelog.
On Linux, the phone is notified as usual.
There's no setting that keeps the phone quiet only while the desktop app is open, according to the settings and notifications page.
Step 7: Allow the phone apps your Bot may use
A Bot can use four apps on an Android phone: Calendar, Contacts, Location and Alarms.
To grant them ahead of time, open Settings → Connect apps and choose Android next to All.
Your apps are listed under This device.
Allow asks Android for the permission, Allowed means it's on, and Denied means you turned it down earlier.
For a denied app, tap Open Settings and switch the permission on in Android's settings.
Alarms needs no permission on Android, so it shows what it does instead.
If you skip this step, the Bot asks the first time with a Grok Bot needs permission card and waits up to five minutes for you to tap Allow.
What each Android phone app actually lets a Bot do
Here's the scope from the mobile docs, so you know what you're allowing.
| App | What the Bot can do | Limit to know |
|---|---|---|
| Calendar | Read events, add, change or delete them | Can't change or delete a repeating event; never invites anyone |
| Contacts | Look up a phone number, email, address or birthday | Read only; sees only the contacts you shared |
| Location | Read where the phone is now | Gets a position, not an address or place name |
| Alarms | Set an alarm or start a timer | Alarm rings once within 24 hours; can't list, change or cancel |
On Android, alarms and timers get passed to your Clock app, which may open.
The Clock app doesn't confirm it saved them, so the Bot asks you to check.
Reminders and Home control are iPhone only.
Gotcha: keep the app open
The Bot reaches your phone only while Grok Bot is open on it.
Leave the app closed or backgrounded and the Bot simply asks you to bring it up and retry.
Phone apps also only work in your own chat with a Bot you own, not in group chats, Slack or someone else's shared Bot.
Tune approvals and Auto Review from the phone
Auto Review is on by default and decides which actions run and which stop to ask you.
On Android, the switch sits in the Bot group of Settings, per the approvals and security page.
Tap Custom Rules in the same group to add rules like "send email" set to Ask first.
You can have up to 20 Allow automatically rules and up to 20 Ask first rules.
When both match an action, Ask first wins.
Answering a card on a small screen
Tap the card to see the full request and all of its buttons.
Allow once runs the action without saving a rule, Always allow saves an Allow rule, and Deny stops it until your next message.
A card raised by a routine or other background work expires after 30 minutes, so a muted phone can stall a routine.
If your team admin has set limits, each phone's page in Settings → Bot → Manage your devices shows them under Tools on this device.

What you can do from the Android app day to day
Type, use Start dictation, or go live with Start voice chat, and play any voice memo a Bot sends back.
In groups you can tag another Bot or @everyone, answer in a thread, add photos or files, and react.
When a Bot drafts an email or Slack message, edit it and tap Send or Discard.
Open the computer to watch the Bot work, take over for a password, two-factor code or CAPTCHA, then hand back with I'm done.
Review routines on a Bot's profile, pause one with Active, or swipe to delete it.
If you run scheduled jobs, my Grok Bot routines walkthrough covers building them properly.
What still needs the desktop app
Keep a laptop handy for four jobs.
- Teaching a workflow by demonstration
- Testing a routine
- Updating or recovering the cloud computer
- Reconnecting your phone when the computer won't connect
The Android share sheet also accepts text only for now, so send files from inside the app.
Renaming a page needs desktop as well.
Gotchas I'd check before relying on it
Deleting your account from the phone doesn't cancel a Google Play subscription; cancel it with Google separately.
To change or end an in-app plan, go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions inside Google Play.
Cursor can't cancel or refund it for you, so billing questions go to Google Play's refund support.
If you later move to The X Subscription, check Google Play afterwards and cancel any old Grok, Grok Bot or X Premium plan still set to renew, as the Google Play subscriptions article says.
When a Bot posts to Slack for you, your phone isn't notified, per the v0.75.8 changelog entry.

FAQ: Grok Bot Android
Which Android version does Grok Bot need?
Android 9 or later, plus an internet connection and an eligible plan such as Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription.
Why do my Bot notifications show on my laptop instead of my phone?
While you use the desktop app on macOS or Windows, notifications from Bots you own go there. If a Bot needs your input, the phone is notified about 3 minutes later unless you act first.
Can a Bot set an alarm on my Android phone?
Yes. It passes the alarm or timer to your Clock app, which may open, and asks you to check it there because the Clock app does not confirm.
Can I send a PDF to a Bot from the Android share sheet?
Not yet. The Android share sheet currently accepts text only, so attach files from inside the Grok Bot app.
Do I need to subscribe again in the Android app?
No, not if your Cursor account already includes Grok Bot. Sign in with the same account and your access carries over.
