The Hark AI agent is a free personal agent called Hark Pro that connects to your email and apps, then actually does jobs for you on its own cloud computer.

Hark calls it "the operating system for your life", and after setting it up myself on launch day, I think that's a fair description of what it's going for.

The questions I keep getting are simple.

What is Hark, is it really free, how do you set it up, and is it safe to let an agent loose on your Gmail and your wallet?

This is the operator walkthrough I wish I'd had on day one, with every step and every feature I tested in the video below.

What Is The Hark AI Agent?

The Hark AI agent is Hark Pro, a personal agent from a company called Hark Labs that runs on the web and as an app on iOS and Android.

It launched on 6 October 2026, and it's free to start.

You chat to it like a messaging app, and it takes jobs off your plate instead of just answering questions.

The big difference from a normal chatbot is that Hark has its own cloud computer, called Handoff, which opens real browsers, logs in to websites for you and clicks through tasks the way you would.

Hark says Handoff can juggle up to six browsers at the same time.

When I first opened it, my honest reaction was that it feels like the Apple of AI agents.

The design is clean, it's easy to understand, and it's the kind of thing I'd expected Apple to release.

Here's the quick-reference card before we get into the setup.

Question Answer
What is it? Hark Pro is a personal AI agent that connects to your accounts and does tasks on its own cloud computer.
Who makes it? Hark Labs, the company founded by Brett Adcock, who also founded Figure and Archer Aviation.
When did it launch? Hark released it on 6 October 2026.
Where does it run? It runs on the web at hark.com and in the Hark Pro apps on the App Store and Google Play.
What does it cost? Every feature is free, and paid plans only add more usage.
Who can sign up? Hark's terms say you must be at least 18 years old.

Who Makes Hark And What Does The Hark AI Agent Cost?

Hark is the AI company Brett Adcock started after Figure, his humanoid robotics company.

TechCrunch reported in May 2026 that Hark raised a $700 million Series A, so this is a well-funded team rather than a weekend side project.

The pricing is simple, and I like that every feature sits on the free plan.

Plan Price What you get
Hark Pro (free) $0 You get every feature with the base amount of usage.
Hark Pro² $20 a month You get 2x more usage than the free plan.
Hark Pro³ $100 a month You get 10x more usage than the free plan.

Those plan names and prices come straight from Hark's own launch post.

Before launch, Brett Adcock also said the first 100,000 sign-ups would get the paid plan free, but he didn't say for how long, so check what your own account shows.

Hark has also said it's designing its own hardware, and the press coverage of the launch says the first devices are planned for 2027.

What Problem Does Hark Solve?

Booking a table, finding a camping spot, chasing an email, paying a bill and checking a delivery are all jobs a human assistant would handle.

Until now, the personal agents that could actually do this stuff were either fiddly to set up or locked behind waitlists.

OpenClaw can do a lot, but you have to configure it yourself.

Grok Bot can use a computer, but you often have to log in again inside its computer before it can reach your screen.

Hark's pitch is that it works straight out of the box.

In my words from the video, it's a very simple, easy-to-use version of something like OpenClaw.

How To Set Up The Hark AI Agent: Step By Step

The whole setup took me a few minutes, and here's the exact order I'd follow.

Step 1: Sign up on the web or download the app

Go to hark.com and sign up, or download the Hark Pro app from the App Store or Google Play.

I signed up on the free plan, and I didn't need to pay for anything to test every feature in this post.

Step 2: Connect your email first

Hark recommends connecting your email before anything else, and I'd follow that advice.

I connected my Gmail, because email is where most of my to-dos start.

Step 3: Check the details it shows you

Once your email is connected, Hark shows you the details it has pulled together about you, such as your location.

If something is wrong, tell it, because Hark says it remembers what you tell it and forgets things when you ask.

Step 4: Answer the first question it asks

Hark then greets you with a question that sets the tone for the whole product.

Mine said, "Hi Julian. What's one thing on your plate this week I could take off?"

It suggests things like booking a trip, making a dinner reservation or setting up an appointment.

Step 5: Connect the apps you actually use

Next, connect your other accounts.

The integrations I saw include Gmail, Slack, GitHub, LinkedIn, Notion, Amazon and PayPal.

Hark also says it can reach services through MCP, which is the open standard that lets agents plug into other tools.

The clever bit is that once an app is connected, Hark can use it directly inside its own computer.

That's a real step up from Grok Bot, where I often had to log in again through its computer to give it screen access.

Step 6: Decide whether to add your wallet

You can add your wallet so Hark can pay for things.

Hark stores cards and passwords in an encrypted vault it calls Secured by Hark, and it says even Hark's own staff can't see inside it.

My advice is to leave the wallet empty until you've watched it do a few tasks without money involved.

Step 7: Set your first scheduled task

Finally, ask it to do something on a schedule, such as a morning summary.

Every task you set up in chat appears in the scheduled tasks section, where you can manage it later.

Your First Real Task: The Hark Restaurant Booking Test

Here's the exact test I ran on camera, because it shows how Hark thinks.

I typed, "Book an Italian restaurant for Wednesday next week."

Hark didn't just guess.

It asked me how many people were coming and what time I wanted.

I replied "6pm, two people", and I actually made a typo, but it still understood me perfectly.

Then it started booking one of my favourite restaurants on its own computer screen.

I told it to stop before it completed, because I didn't want a real table booked for a demo.

That's the operator lesson here, so remember it.

Hark will genuinely go and do the thing, which means you need to be clear about which jobs it should finish and which ones it should check with you first.

Hark's own launch post says it checks in with you before doing something that requires your approval, and that's the behaviour you want to keep switched on early.

Here's my earlier test of Grok Bot against Hermes, which is useful context for how much easier Hark's onboarding is.

How To Use Every Hark AI Agent Feature

Once you're set up, these are the features you'll use day to day.

Home: your dashboard of spaces, Panels and Action Buttons

Home is the screen you land on, and it's built from spaces, Panels and Action Buttons.

Hark calls Action Buttons "the evolution of notifications", because instead of nagging you, they let you finish a job with one tap.

You can even pay bills from Home, which shows how far Hark wants to go.

Panels: mini apps you create by typing

Panels are mini apps that sit on your Home screen.

To make one, you tap "create a new panel" and type what you want.

I asked for a panel to track my productivity, and Hark asked whether I wanted meeting hours versus focus time or a list of to-do tasks.

It also offered to connect ClickUp or Asana to feed the panel.

The example panels I saw included calendar events, Shopify packages arriving this week and new episodes from Apple Podcasts.

You could also build panels for fitness, workouts or calorie tracking.

Hark says panels can pull in data from services such as Strava, and you can ask questions about what's inside them.

Projects: long-running work that outgrows a chat

Projects are for long-horizon tasks that go beyond a normal conversation.

Each project is a dedicated thread that stores its own files.

Planning a big event or tracking one topic at work are the two examples that make the most sense.

The proactive inbox

This is the feature that makes Hark feel different from a chatbot.

It reads your emails and proposes action items for you.

You simply say yes or no to each one.

Side prompts and the "show" function

Prompts appear on the side of the chat, such as "quiet this" or "close this notification".

There are also special functions like "show", which pulls things straight into the chat so you can see them.

Attachments and voice input

You can attach files and talk to Hark with voice input.

It doesn't talk back, though, because there's no voice output, so every reply comes back as text.

Scheduled tasks

Anything recurring you set up in chat lands in the scheduled tasks section.

Prep my day

"Prep my day" is the feature I'd use every morning.

It checks your calendar and your inbox, then builds an itinerary for your day.

The example I saw said, "Your inbox is clean. Do you want me to pull in the sales numbers before your team sales meeting at 4 p.m.?"

Trip planning

Hark can find camping spots, write a packing list, tell you when to leave and book flights.

The Approval Rules I'd Set Before Hark Touches Money

An agent that can act on your accounts needs rules before it needs tasks.

Hark's terms say that when it asks you to confirm a transaction, the transaction is authorised once you confirm it.

The same terms say you can give Hark standing permission to complete a category of transactions without asking you first.

Here are the rules I'd start with.

  • I'd keep confirmation on for every booking, purchase and payment for at least the first few weeks.
  • I'd add a wallet only after Hark has completed several tasks without money involved.
  • I'd connect one account at a time, starting with email, so I can see what each connection changes.
  • I'd review the scheduled tasks section every week and delete anything I no longer need.
  • I'd stop any task the moment it looks wrong, exactly as I did with the restaurant booking.

There's also a privacy point worth knowing.

Hark says it will never sell your data or share it with advertisers, and that you can always delete it.

Its terms also say that content reviewed for safety or misuse can be used for training even if you've opted out, so don't paste anything into Hark you'd hate to see reviewed.

If you want the same thinking applied to other personal agents, my Muse vs Instinct setup guide covers which permissions to lock down first.

Hark AI Agent vs OpenClaw vs Grok Bot

These are the two comparisons I made in the video, laid out side by side.

What matters to an operator Hark OpenClaw Grok Bot
Setup It works straight out of the box after you connect email. You configure it yourself, which gives you more control. Onboarding is harder than Hark in my experience.
Using connected apps Connected apps work directly inside Hark's own computer. It depends on how you wire it up. I often had to log in again inside its computer to give it screen access.
Design It's the cleanest agent UI I've used. It's built for builders rather than for a polished app feel. It's functional rather than beautiful.
Best for It suits people who want a personal agent today without tinkering. It suits builders who want full control. It suits people already living inside the X and Grok world.

Here's my OpenClaw personal assistant walkthrough if you want to see the build-it-yourself route.

Should You Switch To The Hark AI Agent Or Keep What You Have?

One viewer left a comment that I think a lot of people are feeling.

They listed Hermes, Muse, Dots, Grok, OpenBot and now Hark, and asked whether the differences are big enough to switch and configure everything from scratch again.

My honest answer is that you shouldn't switch for the sake of switching.

If your current agent already does your daily jobs well, keep it and treat Hark as a test.

If you've never got a personal agent running because setup was too painful, Hark is the easiest starting point I've seen.

The real skill isn't picking the perfect agent.

The real skill is knowing which jobs to hand off and which approvals to keep, and that transfers to every agent you'll ever use.

I compared two of the other always-on agents in my ChatGPT Dots vs Muse breakdown, and if you'd rather run a free local harness, my StarNet AI agent setup is the opposite approach to Hark.

Hark AI Agent Limits You Should Know

  • Hark doesn't talk back, because voice works as input only.
  • Usage is capped on the free plan, and the paid plans exist to raise that cap.
  • Hark hasn't published which AI model powers the main assistant.
  • Hark hasn't published a full country list, and launch coverage said it was rolling out in the United States first.
  • The hardware is still being designed, so today it's an app and a website only.
  • It can take real actions, so a vague instruction can turn into a real booking or purchase.
