Hermes Meshy is the official Meshy plugin for Hermes Agent, and it lets your agent turn a text prompt or a photo into a real 3D model you can download, animate or 3D print.

Nous Research packages it, Meshy AI writes the MCP server inside it, and you install it with one command, hermes plugins install meshy.

To make it work you need a Meshy API key, Node.js 18 or newer, and Hermes 0.22.3 or newer.

The Nous plugin catalog lists it as an Official plugin, version 0.4.0, added on 21 October 2026 and re-pinned on 22 October 2026.

I covered it in my video, but I haven't run it on my own machine yet, so every step below comes from the Nous catalog page, the plugin's reviewed README and Meshy's own docs.

This page is the operator walkthrough, which means install, key, first model, approvals, files and settings, in that order.

Hermes Meshy Setup At A Glance

This table is the whole setup on one screen, so you know what you're signing up for before you open a terminal.

Step What you do Command or place
0 You check that Hermes is 0.22.3 or newer and that Node.js 18+ with npx is on your PATH. hermes update
1 You install the plugin from the Nous catalog. hermes plugins install meshy
2 You switch the plugin on. hermes plugins enable meshy
3 You create a Meshy API key, which needs a Pro plan or above. meshy.ai → Settings → API
4 You give Hermes the key. Desktop: Settings → Plugins → Meshy, or hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY msy_...
5 You ask for your first model and approve the credit cost. "Make a low-poly treasure chest for Godot"

The catalog page lists the plugin for Windows, macOS and Linux.

What Hermes Meshy Actually Is

Hermes Meshy is two things in one install, and knowing both halves saves you confusion later.

The first half is mcp.json, which starts Meshy's first-party MCP server with npx -y @meshy-ai/meshy-mcp-server@0.6.5 over stdio for every new session while the plugin is on.

That means you never edit mcp_servers in your config.yaml to get it running.

Nous packages the plugin and the skill under the MIT licence, and Meshy's server is MIT licensed too.

The second half is a workflow skill called meshy-3d.

That skill carries Meshy's own routing rules, which cover confirming costs, never re-creating a task it isn't sure about, choosing the output format first and following scenario playbooks.

The README explains why the skill exists, which is that Hermes does not pass MCP server instructions to the model, so the rules have to travel as a skill.

Here's the point I made in the video about why this matters.

Making 3D models used to be a skill you learned in Blender over months.

Now the skill is knowing what to ask for, and the agent does the clicking.

One quick naming note will save you a wrong install.

Hermes3D is a community 3D office where you watch your agents work, and it doesn't make 3D models at all.

Hermes Meshy is the one that makes models.

Before You Install: Three Things To Check

You need Hermes 0.22.3 or newer, Node.js 18 or newer with npx on your PATH, and a Meshy account on a Pro plan or above.

Missing any one of those is the usual reason a plugin fails on its first start.

If you're behind on Hermes, hermes update brings a command-line install up to date, and my Hermes Agent plugins marketplace guide explains how the catalog works.

Step 1: Install And Enable The Hermes Meshy Plugin

These are the exact commands from the plugin README.

hermes plugins install meshy # from the Nous plugin catalog
hermes plugins enable meshy

The first start downloads the pinned server package into npm's cache, so give it a moment the first time.

If you use Hermes Desktop, the catalog page also has an "Open in Hermes Desktop" button for the same install.

In Desktop, the plugin shows up under Capabilities and then Plugins, which is the route I point to in the video.

The Desktop half of the plugin is opt-in, so turn on the plugin's Desktop switch in that same list if you want the 3D cards and gallery.

Step 2: Create Your Meshy API Key

You create the key on Meshy's site, under meshy.ai, then Settings, then API.

Meshy's own quickstart says you can't view the key again after you leave that screen, so store it somewhere safe straight away.

Meshy's pricing page said on 23 October 2026 that the Pro plan includes 1,000 credits a month and API access.

I'm not quoting a money price here, because Meshy shows prices in your local currency and they change.

Step 3: Give Hermes The Key

In Hermes Desktop, open Settings, then Plugins, then Meshy, paste the key into the Meshy API key box and press Save.

The README says the running Meshy server restarts with the new key on its own.

Without Desktop, the README gives you two routes that do the same job.

hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY msy_... # writes the profile's .env
# or put MESHY_API_KEY=msy_... in ~/.hermes/.env (~/.hermes/profiles/<name>/.env)

The key is stored in .env and never in config.yaml.

Hermes passes MCP servers a filtered environment, so the Meshy server only gets MESHY_API_KEY from your profile.

Step 4: Make Your First Model

Now you just ask Hermes in plain English.

The README gives two starter prompts that are worth copying.

  • You can ask, "Make a low-poly treasure chest for Godot."
  • You can ask, "Turn ~/photos/mug.jpg into a 3D model and get it ready to print at 10 cm."

Before anything that spends credits, Hermes shows you an approval prompt with Allow once, Allow for this session and Deny.

On Hermes builds that support MCP tool costs, that prompt reads something like "Costs about 5–25 credits" plus what the chat has already spent.

Text to 3D works in two stages, because meshy_text_to_3d makes an untextured preview and meshy_text_to_3d_refine textures it once you approve.

The skill's tool reference says a generation typically takes two to three minutes.

How Hermes Meshy Handles Credits And Approvals

This is the part every operator should understand before handing the agent a big job.

The plugin marks the Meshy server as trust: untrusted, so Hermes asks before every write-capable call.

Write-capable calls include creating models, downloading and cancelling tasks.

Read-only tools run without a prompt, and those cover your balance, your usage, task status, task lists, the animation library and slicer detection.

The skill also tells the agent to state the cost and get your yes before any paid call.

Situation What Hermes does
A normal paid call in a chat Hermes shows the estimated cost and waits for Allow once, Allow for this session or Deny.
A chat that would pass 200 credits Hermes asks again, even if you've skipped the normal prompts.
A read-only call such as a balance check Hermes runs it without asking.
A cron job, hermes chat -q or a gateway with no approver Hermes refuses paid calls, because nobody is there to approve them.
An older Hermes build Hermes ignores the cost declaration, so you only get the standard approval prompt.

If you planned to schedule overnight model generation, the plugin won't spend credits without a human there to approve it.

Skipping the prompts, if you really want to

The README shows how to override the server in config.yaml with the same name, and it warns that your entry replaces the plugin's, trust setting included.

mcp_servers:
  meshy:
    command: npx
    args: ["-y", "@meshy-ai/meshy-mcp-server@0.6.5"]
    env:
      MESHY_API_KEY: ${MESHY_API_KEY}

Your override keeps the plugin's costs and the 200-credit limit unless it sets tool_costs or spend_limit itself.

Setting spend_limit: 0 turns the limit off, and I wouldn't do that on an account with a big credit balance.

Every Tool Hermes Meshy Adds

The plugin adds 28 tools, which the README says are about 19K tokens of schemas.

They load on demand through Hermes's tool search, so they cost nothing in the prompt until the agent actually uses one.

Hermes exposes each one as mcp__meshy__<tool>.

Group Tools What the group does
Generation meshy_text_to_3d, meshy_text_to_3d_refine, meshy_image_to_3d, meshy_multi_image_to_3d, meshy_text_to_image, meshy_image_to_image It turns text, one image or several views into models, and it makes 2D concept images.
Post-processing meshy_remesh, meshy_retexture, meshy_convert, meshy_resize, meshy_uv_unwrap It changes polygon counts, textures, formats, real-world size and UV layouts.
Characters meshy_rig, meshy_animate, meshy_text_to_motion, meshy_list_animations It rigs humanoid characters and gives them preset or text-described motion.
Printing meshy_analyze_printability, meshy_repair_printability, meshy_process_multicolor, meshy_auto_split, meshy_send_to_slicer, meshy_creative_lab It checks, repairs, splits and colours models for printing and hands them to your slicer.
Tasks and account meshy_get_task_status, meshy_list_tasks, meshy_list_models, meshy_download_model, meshy_cancel_task, meshy_check_balance, meshy_list_usage It tracks jobs, downloads results and shows your credit balance and usage.

My broken cupboard knob example from the video lives in that printing group.

You photograph the knob, the agent builds a model, checks it's printable, repairs it and hands it to the slicer you already have installed.

Where Your Hermes Meshy Files Go

meshy_download_model saves to whatever absolute save_to path the agent passes, and the skill asks it to always pass one.

If the agent skips it, the server writes into a meshy_output/ folder inside the plugin's own data directory, not your project.

Output Formats you can download
A refined model You get GLB, FBX, OBJ with its .mtl and texture, STL and USDZ.
A preview You get GLB only.
A multicolour print file meshy_process_multicolor makes a 3MF that opens ready to print in your slicer.

The download menu in Desktop lists every format Meshy already made for that task, and those downloads cost no credits.

Missing formats have separate Convert actions, which request a paid conversion through chat.

The most important rule here is about time.

The README says API assets normally expire after three days, and viewing a model in the gallery doesn't save it.

Meshy's API quickstart says the same thing, which is that Meshy keeps the files for 3 days on every plan except Enterprise.

So download anything you like the same day you make it.

The Hermes Desktop Extras

If you turned on the Desktop switch, you get extras rendered with stock three.js.

  • You get inline 3D cards that you can click to orbit, zoom, toggle wireframe and grid, or open in a tab.
  • You get a download menu on every card that saves the format you pick next to the .glb and opens its folder.
  • You get a Meshy 3D gallery from the status-bar chip or from ⌘K and "Meshy: open 3D gallery".
  • You get a "Made from" panel that shows the prompt, the settings, the seed, the credits and the chain of steps behind each model.
  • You get a credit chip in the status bar that refreshes after every Meshy tool call.
  • You get an All, Images and Models filter, plus a Copy ID button for follow-up requests.

"Meshy: view a .glb file…" opens any model already on your disk.

The gallery only lists the plugin's own output folder and models the viewer has opened or saved, so nothing scans your home folder.

Hermes Meshy Settings You Can Change

Every option lives on one page in Desktop, under Settings, Plugins and Meshy, and every option is also a plain config key.

Setting Default CLI to change it
Meshy API key It is empty until you add one. hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY msy_...
Credit balance in the status bar It is on by default. hermes config set plugins.entries.meshy.settings.show_credits false
Inline 3D cards in chat It is on by default. … .settings.inline_viewer false
Auto-rotate in the gallery It is on by default. … .settings.auto_rotate false
Recent generations shown It shows 24 by default. … .settings.gallery_limit 10 (1–60)

The README says Desktop applies a saved change immediately and nothing needs a restart.

Hermes Meshy Limits To Plan Around

These are the edges I'd want to know about before using it on real work.

Limit What I'd do about it
Files on Meshy normally expire after three days. I'd download every model I want to keep straight away.
Paid calls are refused in cron jobs and unattended runs. I'd run 3D jobs in a live chat where I can approve them.
API keys need a Meshy Pro plan or above. I'd check my plan before installing anything.
The server is local only, because Meshy offers no hosted MCP endpoint. I'd make sure Node.js 18+ is installed on every machine that runs it.
Prompts and referenced images go to Meshy's API under your key. I'd keep private client images out of it unless the client agrees.
Older Hermes builds ignore the cost declaration. I'd update to 0.22.3 or newer before relying on the 200-credit guard.

The privacy section of the README says the server sends no analytics of its own.

The skill's helper scripts for model stats, preview renders and an optional Blender hand-off run locally through the terminal tool.

My Three Takeaways On Hermes Meshy

My video ends on three points, and they're the right way to think about this plugin.

First, agents can now make physical things, because a chat can end with a file you print and hold.

Second, the safety is built in, because every paid call needs your approval and the per-chat limit stops a runaway spend.

Third, the gallery remembers how you made each model, so save the files you like before they expire.
